Nevada Insurance CE Requirements by License Type
Nevada Insurance CE Requirements Guide. Practical Nevada insurance guide for new and experienced agents. Get the rules, timelines, and steps you need.

Keeping your Nevada insurance license active requires more than paying a renewal fee — you need to complete continuing education (CE) on schedule, using approved courses, and have it reported correctly. Nevada's CE framework is distinctive among states with its 3-year renewal cycle and 30-hour requirement, which gives producers more time but also creates planning challenges.
Here's a clear breakdown of Nevada's insurance CE requirements by license type.
The Basic Framework
The Nevada Division of Insurance (DOI) requires licensed insurance producers to complete continuing education during each renewal cycle.
For Nevada major lines producers (Property, Casualty, Personal Lines, Accident & Health, Life, or Variable Products), the standard requirement is:
30 hours of CE every 3 years
3 hours must be in Ethics
The remaining 27 hours can be in approved insurance-related topics
This 30-hour, 3-year framework distinguishes Nevada from most states, which use 24 hours over 2 years.
Your License Renewal Cycle
Nevada insurance licenses generally renew on a 3-year cycle, with specific timing rules:
Initial cycle. Major Lines licensees first renew their license by the last day of their birth month following their initial 2-year period from issuance.
Subsequent cycles. After the initial cycle, licenses renew every 3 years on the first day of the month following the issuance month.
This makes Nevada's renewal cycle longer than most states (which typically use 2-year cycles), giving you more flexibility — but also requiring careful tracking since renewal dates come less frequently.
CE by License Type
Major Lines Producers (Life, Accident & Health, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines, Variable Products):
30 hours every 3 years
3 hours must be in Ethics
Adjusters (Resident):
24 hours every 3 years
3 hours must be in Ethics
Different from producer requirement (note Nevada's recent changes affecting adjuster/producer overlap as of February 14, 2025)
Insurance Consultants:
30 hours every 3 years including 3 hours of ethics
Same general framework as producers
Exchange Enrollment Facilitators:
30 hours every 3 years including 3 hours of ethics
Limited Lines Licensees (some categories):
May have reduced or modified requirements
Verify specific requirements with Nevada DOI
The 3-Hour Ethics Requirement
Nevada requires 3 hours of Ethics CE as part of every 3-year renewal cycle. This requirement is:
Non-negotiable — you can't substitute other coursework
Must be completed through a Nevada DOI-approved ethics course
Applies to every renewal cycle, not just once in your career
Counts within the 30-hour total (not in addition)
Nevada CE Timing Specifics
No carryover. Hours completed in one renewal period don't carry forward to the next.
Course repetition. You generally cannot take the same CE course more than once in a renewal period for credit. Choose varied courses.
CE before renewal. Required CE must be completed and reported before submitting your renewal application.
Multiple Lines of Authority
Producers licensed in multiple lines (Life and Health AND Property and Casualty) have the same 30-hour requirement as those with single lines. You don't double up — your total is still 30 hours.
You can take CE in any line of authority. The 3-hour ethics requirement applies regardless of how many lines you hold.
Specialty Training Requirements
Beyond standard CE, Nevada has specialty training requirements for specific product types:
Long-Term Care (LTC) Training. Before selling LTC insurance, producers must complete:
Initial 8-hour LTC training (state-approved)
4-hour ongoing training every 2 years (note: LTC is on a 2-year cycle, not the 3-year license cycle)
Annuity Best Interest Training. Effective November 15, 2024, Nevada added specific training requirements for resident and nonresident producers transacting annuity products:
One-time 4-hour Annuity Best Interest course before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products
May be completed in any state with substantially similar laws
Flood Insurance Training. Property and Casualty or Personal Lines producers selling flood insurance:
One-time 3-hour NFIP course by the end of the first renewal period
Counts toward the 30-hour CE requirement if approved for Nevada CE
These specialty trainings count toward your 30-hour CE requirement when approved for Nevada CE credit.
Late Renewal
Nevada provides a 30-day late renewal period after the expiration date with a late renewal fee. After this grace period, more significant reinstatement procedures may apply.
CE Exemptions
Nevada provides several CE exemptions documented in NAC 683A.330:
20-Year Veterans. Producers who have been licensed for 20 consecutive years are exempt from CE.
Industry Designation Holders. Producers holding designations including CLU, CPCU, CIC, CFC, or CFP are exempt from CE.
Other Specific Categories. Various other exemptions may apply for specific situations.
To request an exemption, complete the Continuing Education Exemption Request Form (available in English, Spanish, Tagalog, and Traditional Chinese) and return to Renewal.Desk@doi.nv.gov.
Non-Resident Producer CE
Non-resident producers in Nevada generally adhere to their home state CE requirements rather than Nevada's specific 30-hour requirement.
This is reciprocity in action — your home state CE counts for Nevada non-resident license maintenance. However:
Specialty training. Some specialty trainings (LTC, Annuity Best Interest) may still apply to non-residents selling those products in Nevada — though they may complete training in any state with substantially similar laws.
Verification. Verify your specific situation with the Nevada DOI if you have questions.
How CE Hours Get Reported
You don't submit CE hours to the Nevada DOI yourself. Approved course providers report completions electronically to Sircon, which integrates with Nevada DOI systems.
Where to Check Your CE Status
Check your CE status at:
Sircon (sircon.com/nevada) — Continuing Education Transcript Inquiry
Lookup Education Courses or Transcript service through Sircon
A free continuing education transcript can be obtained through this service, allowing you to verify your CE compliance throughout your renewal cycle.
Best Practices for CE Compliance
Spread CE throughout the cycle. Don't wait until the final months. Spread hours across the 3-year period.
Track your renewal date. Calendar your renewal date prominently.
Verify CE status quarterly. Catch reporting problems while you have time to fix them.
Keep completion certificates. Save digital and printed copies as backup.
Use Nevada-approved providers. Confirm DOI approval before enrolling.
Plan for specialty training. LTC, Annuity Best Interest, and NFIP training have specific timing requirements.

5 Frequently Asked Questions
- How many CE hours do I need every 3 years in Nevada? 30 hours of CE, including 3 hours of ethics, every triennial renewal cycle.
- Why does Nevada use a 3-year cycle when most states use 2 years? This is Nevada's regulatory choice. The longer cycle gives producers more flexibility but requires careful tracking.
- Can I carry over extra CE hours to the next renewal cycle? No. Nevada doesn't allow carryover of excess credits.
- What if I hold licenses in multiple lines of authority? Your total CE requirement is still 30 hours — you don't double it.
- Are Long-Term Care training hours on the same cycle as my license? No. LTC has its own 2-year cycle for the 4-hour ongoing training, separate from your 3-year license cycle.
